GRAMMAR: RELATIVE CLAUSES
Relative clauses give information about someone or something by defining or identifying the nouns that precede them in the main clause.

They usually begin with the relative pronouns who, which, that, whose.
Relative pronouns
Relative pronouns are divided into 2 types:
Provide information needed to identify the noun it modifies
Provide additional information that is not necessary to identify the noun it modifies
Ex1: The teacher who/that teaches us English is great.
Ex2: Ms. Brown, who teaches us English, is great.
No pause or punctuation (commas, parentheses, dashes)
Commas (or parentheses or dashes) and pauses. Note: a comma reflects a pause in speech
“That” is freely used as a relative pronoun, along with WH-pronouns
“That” cannot be used as a relative pronoun, only WH-pronouns are possible
Compare the meaning
We took some students on a picnic. Those students, who wanted to play football, ran to an open field as soon as we arrived at the park.
