At the same time, an old monkey brought a troop of small monkeys out to play. It saw the old man asleep against the tree. It crept softly up to him, picked up a straw hat and put it on. When the small monkeys saw this, they copied what the old one had done. Then they all climbed up the tree and screamed and laughed till they woke the old man up with their noise.

The old man opened his eyes. Good gracious! Where were my hats? He jumped to his feet and hunted high and low. The naughty monkeys found this very funny and burst out laughing. The old man looked up and saw the monkeys wearing his hats.

The man shouted at the monkeys and asked them to give back the hats. The monkeys not only didn’t give him back the hats but also shouted louder. The old man didn’t know what to do next. He took off his hat and scratched his head. The monkeys copied him. “I know! I know” the old man thought. He threw his hat on the ground as hard as he could and said “Ah! This is really too much!”
