Khi chủ từ là số ít hoặc là HE, SHE, IT thì ta phải thêm “S” hoặc “ES” cho động từ. Với những động từ tận cùng là o, s, sh, ch, x ,z, ta thêm “ES”, những trường hợp còn lại thêm “S”. Ví dụ: watch → watches, live → lives
Ngoại trừ: have -> has
Riêng động từ tận cùng bằng “Y” mà trước y là một phụ âm thì ta đổi “Y” thành “I” rồi thêm ES. Ví dụ: study → studies, carry → carries, fly → flies.
b. Cách dùng(Usage)
- Thì hiện tại đơn diễn tả một chân lý, một sự thậthiển nhiên, bản chất, sự lâu dài cố định.
Ex: The sun rises in theEast.
The weather in summer is very hot.
Theylivein England.
I am a student.
Thì hiện tại đơn diễn tả một thói quen, một hành động xảy ra thường xuyên ở hiệntại.
Ex: Mary often goes to school by bicycle.
I get up early everymorning.
What do you do every night?
- Thì hiện tại đơn còn được dùng để diên tả hành động, sự việc xảy ra theo thời gian biểu hoặc chương trình; kế hoạch đã định theo thời gianbiểu.
Ex: The train leaves at seven twenty-three tomorrow morning.
We have English every Saturday.
c. Dấu hiệu nhận biết:
- Trạng từ tần suất: often,usually, frequently(thường) , always, constantly(luôn luôn), sometimes,occasionally, regularly(thỉnh thoảng), seldom,rarely(ít khi, hiếm khi), never..
- every + thời gian (everyday/week,month, every summer.., every Tuesday...)
- once/twice/three times + thời gian (once a week, twice a year...)
