Lesson 1: (1, 2, 3)
I. Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, Sts will be able to: Use the words and phrases related to the topic Common health; Ask and answer questions about common health problems.
II. Language focus:
1. Vocabulary: toothache, earache, sore throat, stomach ache, dentist, take a rest, carry, sweet.
2. Sentence patterns: - What’s the matter with you?

III. Resources:
1. Teacher’s: audio, recordings, chalk, book , pictures…..
2. Students’: student’s book, notebook, pen, ….

1.Warm up - Invite some pupils to role play the short story in Review 2. - Then introduce the new unit by writing What’s the matter with you? 2. New lesson 2.1. Look, listen and repeat - Whole class. Have Ss open their books on page 6. Focus their attention on the title of the unit, the picture and the text. - Get Ss to read the title of the unit and elicit their answers: Do you understand the title? - Have Ss look at each picture and get them identify the familiar characters and the new ones. Point to each character and ask: Who is this? Do you know him/ her? Where’s he/ She? What are they talking about? ( In picture a: Tony is in bed and he tells his mum he can’t have breakfast. In picture b: His mum asks What’s the matter with you? And he answers I don’t feel well. I have a headache. In picture c: His mum says Oh, you have a fever, too. In picture d: Tony’s father ask What’s the matter with Tony? And his mother says He has a fever. I’ll take him to the doctor after breakfast.) |
*Warm up - Some pupils to role play the short story in Review 2.
*Look, listen and repeat - Open the book and pay attention to the title and the picture.
- Listen to the teacher and answer

- Write the new vocabulary on the board “ headache, fever, hot, What’s the matter with you?”and get pupils to say the words at a few times. - Make sure that pupils can understand the situation and language in this section. Play the recording twice: once for pupils to listen all the way through and once for them to repeat. Pause after each line for them to repeat a few times. - Divide the class into groups to take turns to say the lines from Tony, mother and his father. 2.2. Point and say. - Ask Pupils look at Picture a, b, c and d on page 6. Tell the class that they are going to practice asking and answering questions about common health problems using What’s the matter with you? I have….. - Get Ss to practice the answers before introducing the question pupils to repeat the words under them and check their understanding. Explain the meanings if necessary. - Have Ss practise the complete answers. - Ask question What’s the matter with you? For class to answer chorally - Have Ss practise the question and answer in pairs. - Select some pairs of pupils to demonstrate the task in the front of the class. Monitor the activity, check pupils’ pronunciation and offer help when necessary. 2.3. Let’s talk. |
- Write down into the notebook and repeat after the teacher. “ headache, fever, hot, What’s the matter with you?” - Listen to the tape and repeat.
- Role plays to practice the dialogue.

- Tell the class that they are going to practise further by asking and answering questions about common health problem. - Get Ss to imagine they have certain health problems and use the question and answers in their books. Monitor the activity, check pupils’ pronunciation and offer help when necessary. 3. Reinceforment - Have Ss play game “ Guessing game” - Have Ss play game in 2 groups - Have 2 Ss go to the board do the actions “ headache, earache, sore throat, stomachache” - Class guess the words. |

Tell them that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the correct answers. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen as they read. - Play the recording again for pupils to listen to the recording and tick the correct answers. - Play the recording once more for pupils to check their answers. - Ask pupils to exchange their answers with their partners before reporting them to the class. - Read out the answers to the class. Look, listen and repeat - Introduce picture and ask some questions about the situations in the picture: + Who are they in the picture? + Who’s he/ she talking with? + What’s the matter with him? - Tell them that they are going to listen a dialogue between Mai Nam and Quan. -Ask sts to look at the book and listen to the tape - Play the recording for Ss listen - Ask them repeat a few times. - Repeat the procedure with the second picture. - Play the recording through. - Practice with Ss. - Divide the class into 2 groups. Ask Ss practice in pairs. - Check some pairs. - Others give comments. - T gives comments. - Go round and check Ss can repeat and understand the dialogue. 2.2. The quickest pupil to guess the illness correctly gets one point. - Set the time limit for Ss to play game. Those with the most points at the end of the game. 3.
