1.Warm up

- Invite some pupils to role play the short story in Review 2.

- Then introduce the new unit by writing What’s the matter with you?

2. New lesson

2.1. Look, listen and repeat

- Whole class. Have Ss open their books on page 6. Focus their attention on the title of the unit, the picture and the text.

- Get Ss to read the title of the unit and elicit their answers: Do you understand the title?

- Have Ss look at each picture and get them identify the familiar characters and the new ones. Point to each character and ask: Who is this? Do you know him/ her? Where’s he/ She? What are they talking about?  

( In picture a: Tony is in bed and he tells his mum he can’t have breakfast. In picture b: His mum asks What’s the matter with you? And he answers I don’t feel well. I have a headache. In picture c: His mum says  Oh, you have a fever, too. In picture d: Tony’s father ask What’s the matter with Tony? And his mother says He has a fever. I’ll take him to the doctor after breakfast.)

*Warm up

- Some pupils to role play the short story in Review 2.

*Look, listen and repeat

- Open the book and pay attention to the title and the picture.

- Listen to the teacher and answer

- Look at each picture and identify the characters.

- Discuss what happening in each picture.

- Listen to the teacher and answer questions.

( In picture a: Tony is in bed and he tells his mum he can’t have breakfast. ….

- Write the new vocabulary on the board “ headache, fever, hot, What’s the matter with you?”and get pupils to say the words at a few times.

- Make sure that pupils can understand the situation and language in this section. Play the recording twice: once for pupils to listen all the way through and once for them to repeat. Pause after each line for them to repeat a few times.

-  Divide the class into groups to take turns to say the lines from Tony, mother and his father.

2.2. Point and say.

- Ask Pupils look at Picture a, b, c and d on page 6. Tell the class that they are going to practice asking and answering questions about common health problems using What’s the matter with you? I have…..

- Get Ss to practice the answers before introducing the question pupils to repeat the words under them and check their understanding.

Explain the meanings if necessary.

- Have Ss practise the complete answers.

- Ask question What’s the matter with you? For class to answer chorally

- Have Ss practise the question and answer in pairs.

- Select some pairs of pupils to demonstrate the task in the front of the class. Monitor the activity, check pupils’ pronunciation and offer help when necessary.

2.3. Let’s talk.

- Write down into the notebook and repeat after the teacher. “ headache, fever, hot, What’s the matter with you?”

- Listen to the tape and repeat.

- Role plays to practice the dialogue.

*Point and say

- Look at the picture and listen to the teacher.

- Ss practice asking and answering questions about common health problems using What’s the matter with you? I have…..

- Ss practice the answers before introducing the question pupils to repeat the words under them and check their understanding

- Ss practise the complete answers.

- Some pairs perform in front of the class.

*Let’s talk.

- Tell the class that they are going to practise further by asking and answering questions about common health problem.

- Get Ss to imagine they have certain health problems and use the question and answers in their books.

3. Reinceforment

- Have Ss play game “ Guessing game”

- Have Ss play game in  2 groups

- Have 2 Ss go to the board do the actions “ headache, earache, sore throat, stomachache”

- Class guess the words.

- SS are going to practise further by asking and answering questions about common health problem.

- Ss imagine they have certain health problems and use the question and answers in the books.

2.4. Listen and tick.

- Ask pupils to open their Students’ book on page 7. Tell them that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the correct answers.

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen as they read.

- Play the recording again for pupils to listen to the recording and tick the correct answers.

- Play the recording once more for pupils to check their answers.

- Ask pupils to exchange their answers with their partners before reporting them to the class.

- Read out the answers to the class. Provide explanation(s) when necessary

2.5. Read and complete

- Tell pupils that they are going to do read the text and fill the gaps with the appropriate words. “earache, sore throat, stomach ache, fever, toothache”

Give pupils a few seconds to read the text in silence. Check comprehension and give feedback.

- Give pupils time to do the task.

Go around to offer help, if necessary.

- Get pupils to swap and correct their answer before checking as a class. Write the correct answer on the board for pupils to copy down into their notebooks.

- Do choral and individual repetition of the sentences.

- Play the recording for Ss listen and sing along.

- Play the recording for Ss listen and teacher does actions.

- Ask Ss to sit face to face and practise singing and do actions in groups of four.

- Call some groups perform in front of the class and do actions

3. Reinforcement

- Have whole class sing the song do actions.

- The class that they are going to play game : Charades

- Revise the names of the body parts before starting the game.

- Have Ss play the game in groups of six.

- Pupils in each group take turn to mime the illness while the others guess. The quickest pupil to guess the illness correctly gets one point.

- Set the time limit for Ss to play game. Those with the most points at the end of the game.

3. Reinforcement 

- Practise by giving advice on health problems and responding

- The names of the body parts before starting the game

- Ss play the game in groups of six.
