Lesson1 - GETTING STARTED: A special day


I.OBJECTIVES: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Practice the dialogue, get the information from it, do exercises given.
- Use lexical items related to the topic “ My new school”
- Use some vocabularies and structures to talk about school activities.
- Use the present simple and present continuous.
II . TEACHING AIDS : sub -board, pictures, cassette
+ TECHNIQUES: Matching, pair work, communicative approach.
+ SKILLS: listening, speaking.
III. PROCEDURES:

1. Organization:(1’)
- Greeting/ asking the total.
2. Checking the old lesson: (5’)
- Call 1 St to retell the learning methods
- Call 1 St to retell how to use and learn the text book English 6.
- other Ss remark.
3. New lesson.(31’)
* Activity 1:Listen and read
-Ask Ss to look at the picture and answer some questions about the picture
E.g.: Who are they? What is Phong doing?
- Write the title on the board and ask Ss why it is a special day.
- Explain the meaning of “special” and ask Ss to guess what the picture might show or what the conversation might be about.
- Let Ss open their books and check their answers.
- Play the recording, Ss listen and read
- Ask Ss to do exercise (a)
- Let Ss work independently then ask them to share answer before discussing in groups
-Tell Ss to refer back to the conversation to find the expression in exercise (b)
- Practise saying them together (play the recording again if necessary).
- Explain the meaning (or give synonyms) to the Ss, then give some examples
- Ask Ss to role-play the short conversations in pairs before creating short role-plays in ex (c)
- Let more able Ss try to extend the conversation
* Activity 2:Listen and read the poem( If have more time) .
-Play the recording. Let the whole class read the poem with the right intonation and rhythm.
- Explain some new words and structures
-Ask Qs to check Ss’ understanding of the poem.
- Tell Ss to work in pairs and write a poem about their partner
- Let 2 Ss read their poems aloud.
* Activity 3:Match the words with ….
- Ask Ss to match the words with the school things.
- Play the recording. Ss listen and repeat.
- Then let them practice saying the names of school things ( explain the meaning if necessary, eg, use visual aids in the classroom.)
- Ask Ss to write the correct words in the spaces.
- Allow Ss to check their answers (in pairs or in groups)
c. Production.
-Tell Ss to look around the class and ask what they see around them/ what they have (point to each St): table, desks, notice board, pictures…
4. Feedback. (5’)
- let Ss practise the words, and make up sentences with the words (if there is time)
5- Homework: (3’)
+ Old lesson: -Practice reading the dialogue.
-Write new words then draw a picture next to the word
+ New lesson: -Prepare A CLOSER LOOK 1
- read the words and find out their meanings,read the exercises and do them at home, notice the sounds of the words in Ex 5,6,7.
