Lesson3 - A CLOSER LOOK 2


I.OBJECTIVES: By the end of this Unit, students can:
Know and use the present simple and the present continuous, doing exercises given.
Use the lexical items related to the topic “My New School”
Read Vy’s e-mail to her friend and do exercise 7a,b.

1. Organization:(1’)
- Greeting/ asking the total.
2. Checking the old lesson: (5’)
- Call 1 St to write on the board 3- 5 sentences with new words they studied last lesson.
- Call 1 St to make 5 sentences with new words they studied last lesson.
- Other Ss remark.
3. New lesson.(33’)
* Activity 1: The present simple
- Ask Ss to repeat the form and usage of the present simple tense.
- Ask Ss to look at “ Remember”
- Ss repeat and T writes on the board.
- Let Ss do the task (ex1) individually.
-T corrects their answers (and may call some
Ss to say their answers separately) T gives
explanation if necessary
- Let Ss work in pairs to role-play the interview.
- T observes and helps Ss when and where necessary (corrects Ss’ pronunciation and verb forms)





- Ask Ss to scan the sentences in Ex 2( Guide Ss to do at home)
- Ask Ss to do ex 2 in pairs/groups
-Allow Ss to write the sentences in their notebooks, referring to interview.
-Call 1 or 2 Ss to write on the board
- Check their answers sentence by sentence
- Then ask Ss to give the rule and use of the present simple themselves.
-Let them study the grammar box.
-T can add something and give more examples if necessary
- Ss work in pairs. Take turns to ask questions and give answers in ex3.
- T goes round and corrects mistakes or gives help when and where necessary
* Activity 2:The present continuous.
- Ask Ss to refer to the conversation in Getting Started. T can ask Ss to focus on the verbs used in the present continuous in ex4.
-Play the recording again and ask Ss to listen and follow the conversation on the page.
-Ask Ss to underline the present continuous form: is knocking…, is having…, are wearing…
-Use the grammar box to help you explain how the present continuous is formed and used
-Have Ss study the example in ex5 first.
-Then ask them to give the correct verb forms. (Ask them to repeat the verb form in each sentence, and read the whole sentences correctly).
-T may ask them to say why to use the tense in each sentences.
-Ask Ss to say the differences between the two tenses, then T explains to them:
-Something often happens or is fixed: the present simple # Something is happening now: the present continuous
-Ask Ss to do the task by themselves or in pairs with sentence 1,2 then gide Ss do others at home-T correctly their mistakes (asks why they use the present simple or the present continuous, focusing on the context of the sentences such as use of adverbs of time: now, on Mon day and Sunday…, or the command: Look!..)
-Discuss any common errors and provide further practice if necessary

-Have Ss do the task in ex7 by themselves. Then they can discuss their answers with a partner before discussing with the class
a. Underline things that often happen or are fixed. Then underline things that are happening now.
b. Help Ss compare Vy’s first week with theirs individually. They can write in their notebooks at home. T will call them to read out theirs sentences, and corrects their mistakes at the next lesson.
E.g.: - Both Vy and I are having an interesting first week
- I wear my uniform every day, but Vy wears her uniform only on Mondays and Saturdays

- Ask some Ss to make 2 sentences in simple present tense and 2 sentences in present continuous tense about you or others in the class.

5- Homework: (3’)
+ Write five sentences in simple present tense and five sentences in present continuous tense about you or friends or family’s members.
-Prepare communication: Rad the questions in ex1 and (() the suitable qs…, write two more qs. Read qs in ex2 and ask Ss to list out the adj of a good friend.
