PART II. NEW LESSON (28 mins)

1. Vocabulary:

  • T uses the flashcards to introduce the vocabulary. T can ask “What’s this? Or Is it a ..?” and then T writes the words on the board.
  • T elicits each vocab item, especially “in, on, under”.
  • T reads, SS repeat afterwards and read one-by-one. T checks their pronunciation.

Game: Slow motion

  • T holds a pack of flashcards with the pictures facing towards him/her.  The last card should be turned around so it is facing the Ss but is hidden as it is behind the pack. 
  • Slowly pull the flashcard up inch by inch so the Ss can only see part of the flashcard.  As the picture is slowly revealed Ss try and guess what it is. 
  • The first S to guess correctly keeps the card (for 1 point).  Variation: To make it a little more difficult turns the flashcard upside down. 

Game: Whisper down the line

  • SS make two lines.
  • Whisper the word to the first two SS then they must whisper it down their line.  When it reaches the SS at the back of the line they must run to the board, write it down and shout it out. The first correct S is the winner.

Colour in

  • T asks SS to spend a few minutes finishing the task.

2. Structure

Game: Matching

  • T writes some words relating to the flash card such as sing, climb, juggle, bicycle to SS match these verbs with the suitable flash cards. One point is for a correct match.

  • T uses the matching on the board to introduce the structure. T reads the structure, SS repeat twice.
    • The parrot can sing.
    • The clown can ride.
  • T instructs SS to do the other one.

3. Speaking

Game:

  • T brings a ball to play the game.
  • T plays a song, or the class can sing an English song), when the music stops, the pupil receiving the ball have to look at the board and use the structure above to decribe person's ability.
